The type of bail bond education you need in South Carolina depends on whether you are already licensed.
If You Are NOT Yet Licensed
If you are seeking to become a bail bondsman for the first time, South Carolina requires completion of a state-required pre-licensing education program before you may take the licensing exam.
Pre-licensing education is designed to:
Introduce South Carolina bail bond laws and procedures
Prepare applicants for the state licensing exam
Explain the licensing process and professional responsibilities
Most first-time applicants choose a comprehensive pre-licensing option that includes both the required coursework and exam preparation.
If You ARE Already Licensed
If you are already a licensed bail bondsman, you are required to complete continuing education (CE) each year to maintain your license.
Continuing education applies only after licensure and does not replace or satisfy pre-licensing requirements.
Important Information
South Carolina Bail Agents Academy provides education only and does not issue licenses or approve applications. All licensing and renewal decisions are made by the State of South Carolina.
If you are unsure which category applies to you, or if your situation involves eligibility or background concerns, your question may require individual review.
